New national and regional bryophyte records, 48
2016
Andreaea rothii has been recorded for the first time in Croatia. It is a boreo-temperate suboceanic species (Hill et al., 2007) relatively rare in SE Europe, since it is known only from Romania (Ellis et al., 2014d), Slovenia and Serbia (Sabovljevic´ et al., 2008 ; Hodgetts, 2015). The species was found in the Papuk Mountains, situated in the mainly lowland area of NE Croatia. In this region Papuk is the largest and highest mountain range, with peaks between 800 and 900 m a.s.l. They are characterized by high geological diversity dominated by metamorphic rocks, such as different types of schists, as well as granites. The climate is temperate, moderately warm without an explicit dry period. …
Clean and Sustainable Biodiesel Production
2015
To date, the majority of world's primary energy is derived from fossil fuels. However, the fossil fuel recourses are in an inevitable decline as energy demand continues to grow exponentially with population growth, urbanization, and improved standards of living. Crude oil prices have recently risen several times and their current annual volatility exceeds 30%. The potential scarcity of fossil fuels has prompted a global search for alternative energy resources. Biodiesel fulfills the major requirements for production of alternative fuels such as feedstock availability, technical feasibility, and economic competitiveness. Together with other renewable biofuels, the use of biodiesel as a subst…
Is R&D Enough to Take Advantage From External Knowledge?: Focusing on Coordination Mechanisms
2014
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of research and development (R&D) and coordination mechanisms (such as decentralization in decision-making and formalization of organizational processes) in the transformation of external knowledge into innovation results. We use survey data for performing standard ordinary least squares regressions in a representative sample of firms from the Spanish Ceramic Tile Industry. The results suggest that R&D is an important moderator influencing the relationship between acquiring external knowledge and innovation outcomes. Second, formalization tends to have a detrimental effect in the transformation of external knowledge into innovation outputs. T…
Travailler dans la recherche privée au sortir d'une école d'ingénieur
2011
In this paper, we analyse the incentives for graduates from engineering schools to work in R&D activities. First, we focus on the remuneration of R&D activities in private companies. The results suggest clearly a lower remuneration of R&D in comparison to other activities, all things being equal. Then, we test the hypothesis of a "taste of research". According this hypothesis, engineers working in R&D activities are willing to accept lower earnings due to intrinsic benefits they get from their work. The results do not fully validate this hypothesis. Indeed, engineers involved in R&D activities have a greater dissatisfaction about the remuneration they receive, but also concerning many aspec…
